THE STORY BEHIND THE VOICE
Sadie Blake's mother worked in a diner; her father repaired buses. When Sadie was fifteen, both died in a senseless road accident. Her mother's sister took her in. At a psychologist's suggestion, Sadie began using singing to work through the pain. What started privately kept growing.
Her aunt was an experimental metallurgist the Mars building programme could scarcely do without. The assignment meant at least seven years away. She made one condition: Sadie came with her. After long negotiations, the mission accepted it. Sadie travelled on the last military transport before the civilian arrivals and reached Mars at seventeen, the youngest human there.
She had to contribute like everyone else, and found work at arrivals. Then she heard Wayfarer at Chinatown's weekly open-mic night. She decided to try. She was good, and she kept singing. Meet Me at Arrivals belongs to a young woman who knows how much it means for someone to come through a door.
